Alphonse Island sits 400 kilometres southwest of Mahé, at the south end of the Amirantes outer-Seychelles chain — a small coral island on a 15-kilometre triangular atoll with two larger islands (Bijoutier and St. François) on the same reef. The atoll has been an internationally famous saltwater fly-fishing destination since 1999, with bonefish, giant trevally, milkfish, and triggerfish on the shallow lagoon flats — among the world's most-rated bonefish destinations alongside the Bahamas and Christmas Island. The single development is the Alphonse Island Resort, a 22-bungalow lodge that operates the fishing programme. The shallow inner lagoon is sand-bottomed in 1-3 metres of water, with the outer reef wall dropping vertically to 800 metres just outside the atoll. Alphonse is 8 hours from Mahé by yacht. Season runs year-round.
