Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are seven Spanish volcanic islands in the Atlantic, 100 kilometres off the Moroccan coast — the only Spanish region outside the Mediterranean and the only sailing destination in Spain with a true year-round season, anchored by steady northeast trade winds. The two largest islands hold the regional capitals: Tenerife (with Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak at 3,718 metres) in the west, and Gran Canaria (with Las Palmas, Atlantic crossing departure port) in the east. The smaller western islands — La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro — are quieter and more rugged, with the channel between them holding resident populations of pilot whales and dolphins. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in the east are flatter and beach-oriented. Standard charter routes are 7 days. Season runs year-round.

Recommended duration: ideal for 1 days
