Kassandra is the western of the three peninsulas (the Halkidiki \"three legs\") that extend south from the Thessaloniki coast into the northern Aegean. The 50-kilometre-long peninsula has the highest resort development in northern Greece, with a 130-kilometre coastline of consecutive pine-backed beaches and the closest swimming beaches to Thessaloniki (only 70 kilometres south, 90 minutes by road). The main charter base is the Sani Marina on the northwest coast (a 215-berth marina inside a private resort complex with 5 hotels). Other charter coves include Kalithea (south), Nea Skioni (southwest), and Possidi Cape at the southern tip (the longest sand spit in Greece). Day-sail routes north reach Sithonia (the middle leg) in 60 minutes east. Kassandra is 4 hours from Thessaloniki by sail. Season runs May through October.
