Sithonia

Sithonia is the middle of the three Halkidiki peninsulas — 45 kilometres long and less-developed than the western Kassandra leg, with about half the resort density and more protected pine forest. The peninsula's most-rated charter anchorage is Porto Koufo (\"the Silent Port\") at the southern tip — a 1.5-kilometre nearly-circular natural bay enclosed by 120-metre cliffs on all sides, one of the most sheltered anchorages in northern Greece. Other anchorages include Lagonisi on the east coast, Toroni on the southwest, and Vourvourou on the northeast (a small archipelago of 9 protected islets and shallow turquoise waters). The 800-metre Itamos peak at the centre is the highest point in Halkidiki. The neighbouring monastic peninsula Mount Athos sits east; Sithonia's east coast is one of the closest secular charter approaches to the Athos monastic ban. Sithonia is 90 minutes from Kassandra. Season runs May through October.
