Tinos

Tinos is the third-largest Cyclades island and the most religious one in Greece — the Church of Panagia Evangelistria in Tinos Town houses an icon believed to perform miracles, drawing pilgrims who crawl up the main street on their knees during August festivals. Beyond the religion, the island is known for its marble-carving tradition: the village of Pyrgos still produces fine sculptors trained in family workshops, and the surrounding villages all hold marble fountains, ornate church facades, and dovecotes carved like lace. The island grows excellent fava (yellow split pea purée) and capers. Tinos is 30 minutes from Mykonos by sail. Season runs May through October.
