Kos

Kos has been called the island of Hippocrates, the garden of the Aegean, and a little Rhodes — all three nicknames are earned. The birthplace of medicine sits on an island with 36 kilometres of sandy coastline, a medieval Knights' Castle overlooking the harbour, and Turkey visible just 4 kilometres across the water. Inland, the mountain village of Zia offers sunsets over the Dodecanese from the slopes of Mount Dikeos; on the coast, the bays between Kefalos and Agios Theologos in the west are some of the quietest in the entire island chain. From the water, Kos reads differently again — a Blue Flag marina with 265 berths, Kalymnos 20 minutes north, Nisyros and its active volcano 45 minutes south. Most sailors who plan one night end up staying two.
