French Polynesia

French Polynesia is 118 islands spread across 5 million km² of South Pacific — and the only practical way to see more than one is by boat. The Society Islands sit at the centre: Tahiti, Mo'orea, Raiatea, Taha'a, and Bora Bora within easy line-of-sight, each ringed by a coral lagoon flat as glass. The water sits at 27°C year-round, visibility hits 40 metres, and the lagoons offer protected anchorages where reef sharks circle the boat at sunset. Onshore: poisson cru with coconut milk, vanilla farms on Taha'a, the black-pearl markets of Raiatea, and overwater bungalows of Bora Bora when you want a day off the boat. Raiatea is the bareboat charter base. Season runs May through October — drier and cooler than the November-April rainy season.

Recommended duration: ideal for 1 days
