San Sebastian

San Sebastián (Donostia in Basque) sits at the eastern end of the Bay of Biscay, 20 kilometres from the French border. The town wraps around La Concha bay — a near-perfect semicircle of golden sand framed by two hills, with the small Santa Clara island in the middle. The Belle Époque waterfront promenade is one of the most-walked in Spain. The Old Town (Parte Vieja) holds the highest density of pintxos bars in the Basque Country, with the city's three-Michelin-star kitchens (Arzak, Akelaŕe, Mugaritz) within 20 minutes. The marina sits at the east end of La Concha, between Mount Urgull and the modern quay. San Sebastián is 90 minutes from Saint-Jean-de-Luz by sail. Season runs May through September.
