Beykoz is the northernmost district on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus, opposite Sarıyer on the European side. The district holds the upper-Bosphorus Asian villages — Çubuklu (seafront fish-restaurant tradition), Beykoz proper (a 19th-century Ottoman crystal-glass factory neighbourhood), and Anadolu Kavağı at the Black Sea entry point. Above Anadolu Kavağı, the ruins of the medieval Yoros Castle (Byzantine, 13th century) sit on a 230-metre hill — the most strategic strait viewpoint on either shore, with views down both the Bosphorus south and the open Black Sea north. The 5,500-hectare Belgrade Forest on the inland side is one of the largest urban forests in Europe. Day-sail routes from Beykoz reach the upper strait and the Riva Black Sea beach village 4 kilometres east. Beykoz is 60 minutes from Galataport by sail. Season runs April through November.
