Büyük Liman (\"Large Harbour\") is a sheltered cove on the Anatolian side of the upper Bosphorus, just north of Beykoz where the strait widens before the Black Sea entrance. The bay cuts inland for about 500 metres, with hills covered in remnant Belgrade Forest and the rare quality on the busy Bosphorus of being out of the main shipping current. The bay is shallow at the head and reaches 15 metres at the mouth, with good holding in mud. Sailing yachts use Büyük Liman as a lunch anchorage when transiting the upper strait, with day trips to the 19th-century Riva beach village 4 kilometres east on the Black Sea coast. Büyük Liman is 30 minutes from Bebek and 90 minutes from Karaköy. Season runs April through November.
