North Malé Atoll is the central atoll of the Maldives archipelago and the location of the capital Malé (the world's most densely-populated city, on a single 5-square-kilometre island). The atoll is a 65-kilometre ring of 50 islands plus dozens of submerged reef heads, with the international airport on the adjacent Hulhulé Island connected to Malé by bridge. Hulhumalé (the artificial reclaimed island) holds the main superyacht moorings and the Hulhumalé Marina. North Malé is the standard charter starting atoll for Maldives routes — most cruises begin here and follow the chain south. The most-dived sites are Manta Point (where reef manta rays clean year-round), Banana Reef, and the HP Reef wall. The atoll holds the highest concentration of luxury resorts in the country. Season runs year-round; peak November-April, monsoon May-October.
