Koh Racha (also Koh Raya or Koh Rachayai) is a small Thai island 20 kilometres south of Phuket's south tip, in the open Andaman Sea — actually a pair of islands, Racha Yai (\"Big Racha\") and Racha Noi (\"Small Racha\"), 6 kilometres apart. The waters around the Racha are among the clearest in the Phuket region (visibility 15-25 metres) because the island lies outside the run-off plume from the Phang Nga Bay rivers. Racha Yai holds Patok Bay on the west coast (the main beach and resort), Bay Two snorkel cove on the east, and the south-coast Lah Bay. Racha Noi is uninhabited and is the dive destination: Banana Bay coral garden and the south-tip pinnacle reefs hold reef sharks, mantas (seasonal), and the occasional whale shark. Racha is 90 minutes from Phuket. Season runs November through April.
