Primorje-Gorski Kotar is the northern Croatian coastal region that wraps around the Kvarner Gulf — between Istria in the west and Zadar County in the south — and includes the mountainous inland Gorski Kotar forest. The Kvarner is a deep enclosed sea body with four large islands (Krk, Cres, Lošinj, Rab) and dozens of smaller islets — protected from the open Adriatic and ideal for charter routes that prefer shorter day-sail hops. The mainland holds the working port city of Rijeka and the Belle Époque resort of Opatija — Austria-Hungary's former imperial seaside town. Charter routes stay within the gulf — 30-90 minute hops between islands — with sheltered anchorages all year. Charter bases at Punat (Krk), Mali Lošinj. Season runs April through October.
