Daydream Island is the smallest of the inhabited Whitsunday islands — a 0.17-square-kilometre island (1 kilometre long, 200 metres wide) entirely occupied by the Daydream Island Resort and Living Reef, a 277-room resort with a 200-metre artificial saltwater reef lagoon built into the property that holds about 100 species of native marine life (the only such open-coral aquarium installed on a Whitsundays resort). The island sits 5 kilometres south of Airlie Beach in the inner Whitsundays, the closest island to the mainland charter base — making it the standard first-night anchorage for charters leaving Coral Sea Marina. The Sunlovers Bay anchorage on the north side holds visiting yacht moorings. Daydream is 20 minutes from Airlie Beach and 45 minutes from Hamilton Island by sail. Season runs April through November.
