Giglio Island is the second-largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago, 14 kilometres off the southern Tuscany coast at Monte Argentario. The island is a 21-square-kilometre granite ridge with three settlements — the harbour at Giglio Porto on the east, the medieval walled village Giglio Castello on the 405-metre central ridge, and the western beach hamlet Campese. The harbour at Giglio Porto holds a working ferry quay and visiting yacht moorings, with a row of pastel-coloured houses lining the seafront. The east coast holds small rock coves; the west coast has the long sand beach at Campese, dominated by a 16th-century Medici watchtower. Giglio is 90 minutes from Porto Santo Stefano on the Argentario peninsula. Season runs May through October.
