Veneto

Veneto is the northeast Italian region centred on Venice and the 550-square-kilometre Venetian Lagoon — the largest wetland in the Mediterranean and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lagoon holds Venice itself (six islands of the historic center) plus the satellite islands of Murano (glass), Burano (lace and colour-painted houses), Torcello (the earliest Venetian settlement), and the long Adriatic-facing Lido beach island. Charter routes inside the lagoon are restricted to local-license vessels because of the narrow navigation channels; offshore charter from Marina di Caorle or Marina di Jesolo reaches the open Adriatic coast and Croatian Istria across the gulf. The mainland holds Palladian villas, the medieval town of Verona, and the Prosecco wine region. Veneto is 4 hours from Pula in Croatia by sail. Season runs April through October.
