Notes to sailors
  • The canal between Mykonos and Tinos has fierce gusts when the meltemi is blowing.

  • Ornos Bay is the most protected from the meltemi anchorage in the island. There are, though, very strong gusts which can come very suddenly during the night. The bottom is weed and at places it provides very poor holding.

  • Visiting yachts normally berth at the uncompleted Mykonos Marina two miles W of the main town, which is the only safe harbour on the island. Since its partial completion, yachts are no longer permitted to berth in Mykonos old harbour, which is reserved for tripper boats.

In addition to the frescoes, the museum displays a range of objects from everyday life, including pottery vessels, tools, and weapons, which provide insight into the daily activities, trade, and social structure of the ancient Therans. The advanced level of craftsmanship and artistry evident in these objects is a testament to the sophistication of the Minoan civilization.

The Museum of Prehistoric Thera doesn't just showcase relics; it tells a story of a civilization that flourished thousands of years ago and then vanished under the volcanic ash. This museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in archaeology, history, or just looking to understand more about the rich heritage of Santorini and the ancient Aegean world.
