  • The yacht berths are located toward the head of the inlet, along a half-mile quay on the west side, with depths ranging from 2.75 to 4.25 meters.

  • Skala serves as a relatively safe harbor during the meltemi season despite strong gusts and cross-winds.

  • A new marina at the north end offers additional berthing options.

  • Approaching Patmos is generally trouble-free, but caution is advised for rocks and a shallow patch called Ifalos Khelia.

  • The nearby cove of Aspri provides a quieter anchorage with some protection from the meltemi.

Notes to sailors
  • Mandraki is the commercial harbor of Nisyros. When the ferry boat from Kos arrives the day-trip boats exit the harbor   because there is not enough space. Yachts are discouraged in Mandraki. In this respect Pali is better.

  • The approach to Pali should be from the north, avoiding the extensive shoals in the bay immediately east of the harbor. You are turning the beam on to the prevailing wind and swell to enter and care is needed if a strong meltemi is blowing.

  • While approaching the small island of Yiali be aware that about 0.5 nM SW of the island there is an underwater reef.
