Girona is the northeast Catalan province that holds the Costa Brava (\"wild coast\") — 200 kilometres of rocky cove-cut shoreline from the French border down to Blanes, with the medieval Old Town of Girona itself sitting 30 kilometres inland. Unlike the flatter beach coasts of Valencia or Andalusia, the Costa Brava is steeply cliffed with small rocky coves; the standard charter highlights are the offshore Medes Islands marine reserve (the densest fish biodiversity on the western Mediterranean), the windswept Cap de Creus national park, and the cove village of Cadaqués where Salvador Dalí lived. Charter marinas at Empuriabrava, Roses, L'Estartit, and Palamós. The cuisine — Catalan seafood paella, suquet stew — is closer to French than the Andalusian south. Season runs April through October.
