Sarıyer is the northernmost district on the European shore of the Bosphorus, running from the Belgrade Forest hills down to the Black Sea entry at Rumeli Kavağı. The district holds the upper-Bosphorus villages once used as Ottoman summer retreats: Tarabya (Greek-era diplomatic mansions on the harbour), Yeniköy (wooden Ottoman waterfront yali mansions, including the Greek Orthodox Patriarch's summer residence), Emirgan (with the 19th-century Emirgan Park gardens famous for the spring Tulip Festival), and İstinye (former floating dry-dock harbour, now a yacht marina). The district seafront runs 15 kilometres, with the strait widening from 1,400 metres at İstinye to 2,500 metres at Rumeli Kavağı before the open Black Sea. Sarıyer is 90 minutes from Galataport by sail. Season runs April through November.
