Türkbükü (officially Göltürkbükü after the 2007 merger with neighbouring Gölköy) sits on the north coast of the Bodrum Peninsula, 18 kilometres north of Bodrum town — a working fishing village in the 1980s that became Turkey's most-rated luxury beach resort area through the 1990s-2000s. The bay holds two close-by anchorage villages: Türkbükü on the east side and Gölköy on the west, both lined with shallow-water beach clubs that operate from long wooden piers extending into the bay (the local geography — flat shoreline with no natural sandy beach — led to the universal pier-club layout where guests swim from the pier rather than walking from shore). The most-known clubs are Macakızı, Maca's Wave, and Casa Dell'Arte (the resort hotel). The bay is closed by Yalıkavak in the west and protected from the prevailing meltemi north wind. Türkbükü is 30 minutes from Yalıkavak by sail. Season runs May through October; peak July-August.
