The Sporades (\"scattered ones\") are the small north-Aegean archipelago east of the Pelion peninsula in mainland Greece — four main inhabited islands (Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, Skyros) plus dozens of uninhabited islets. Unlike the dry southern Cyclades, the Sporades are forested with pine, with green hillsides down to the sea on every island. Skiathos holds 60 beaches in a single 47-square-kilometre island, including the famous Lalaria white pebble cove reachable only by boat. Skopelos was the filming location for Mamma Mia! in 2008 and holds the cliff-top chapel of Agios Ioannis. Alonissos sits inside the National Marine Park of Alonissos, the largest marine protected area in Europe, with a population of Mediterranean monk seal. Charter base at Skiathos. Season runs May through October.
