Bahamas

The Bahamas is an archipelago of over 700 islands and 2,400 cays spread across 180,000 km² of turquoise water — most uninhabited and reachable only by boat. The Exumas chain is the sailing centre: Big Major Cay for the famous swimming pigs, Thunderball Grotto for snorkelling inside a half-submerged cave, Compass Cay for tame nurse sharks at the dock. Water clarity routinely hits 30 metres, with seabed visible from the air on long stretches. Onshore: conch salad cracked open at a beach shack, fresh grouper grilled over coals, rake-and-scrape music at a Friday fish fry. Nassau and Marsh Harbour are the main charter bases. The season runs November through April — opposite of the Mediterranean, with the calmest weather between January and March.
