Çeşme
Çeşme is the Aegean's wind capital — a small town at the western tip of the İzmir peninsula where the meltem blows hardest and most consistently, making it one of the country's two big windsurfing and kitesurfing hubs. The marina handles 400 berths, and the harbour holds a Genoese castle and a string of fish restaurants on the waterfront. The southern coast holds Ilıca's wide sandy beach with natural hot springs that bubble up directly through the sand, and Alaçatı's windsurfing bay sits a short drive away. Greek Chios is a half-day cross-water trip. Çeşme is 90 minutes by car from İzmir. Season runs May through October; June and September are best for sailing without the August crush.
Recommended duration: ideal for 3 days
