Ören is a small Aegean village on the north coast of the Gökova Gulf in Muğla Province, Turkey — 60 kilometres north of Bodrum and administratively part of Milas district. The village sits at the eastern end of a 4-kilometre flat coastal plain, separated from the larger Bodrum tourism scene by the bay and reachable from the south coast only by sail or by a 90-minute road via Milas. Ören is built directly on top of the ancient Greek-Carian city of Keramos, an Ionian-League member founded 700 BC and abandoned in the medieval era — the substantial Roman-era ruins (a theatre, a temple of Zeus Akraios, defensive walls) are still partially visible scattered through the village fields. The 1.5-kilometre seafront pebble beach is the main local resort area, with about 30 family-run pansiyons and beach restaurants. Ören Bay holds 8-metre depth with sand-and-weed bottom, sheltered from the prevailing south-westerly meltem wind by the bay topography. Ören is 4 hours from Bodrum by sail. Season runs May through October; meltem peak July-August.
